Undoubtedly, the lands of today’s republic remember the millennial history of the first European and world cultures. Countless interesting places scattered all over the country await their visitors. Ancient Greek theaters, Roman mosaics, medieval Bulgarian fortresses and churches, Yugoslavian communist monuments, ethnographic complexes and so on.

The new look of the capital Skopje is unusual and memorable. Dozens of new expensive buildings, and monuments that fascinate with their spectacularity, put the city in the top 10 with the places that must be seen in the Balkans.

The other city that is required to visit is Ohrid. It is situated on the shores of the second largest lake on the Balkans – Ohrid. The city enchants with its ancient history and is included in UNESCO by two indicators – nature and history. it unveils cobblestone streets, ancient Greek theaters, dozens of medieval churches, preserved architecture of more than a hundred years ago. As guardian of all this uniqueness, the Samouil fortress towers, a memory of the time when Ohrid has been the capital of the First Bulgarian state at the beginning of the 11th century.

The Republic of Macedonia is a mountainous state and has more mountains and mountain peaks than any other country in the world. However, winter sports and ski tourism are not well developed.

Economically, Macedonia is not very stable. Over 55% of young people are unemployed and are forced to leave their country in search of a better life. Hundreds of thousands of Macedonians have Bulgarian passports, citing their Bulgarian background, and a small number of them study and live in Bulgaria.

Private tours around the country

Historically, the territory of today’s Republic of Macedonia has always been a part of Bulgaria since the end of the 7th century, and 90% of the Christians living in these lands have always been Bulgarians. The history and politics of the Great Powers gives these people a destiny different from that of the Bulgarians in Bulgaria. After more than 100 years of living in the subjugation of Serbia and Yugoslavia, today, these same people recognize themselves as Macedonians. It is complicated but at the same time easy to understand this. Especially if you are interested in history and the development of public processes.
